THE EXPANDABLE SERVO II

4-AXIS SERVO II ON KNEE MILL

The Best Retrofit Available

SERVO II is a modular design automated control system that can be retrofitted to virtually any existing or new mill. It can be configured with table, cross, knee/quill, and rotary table axes, allowing closed loop movement of up to four axes at the same time.

Since many machining tasks are simplified with the SERVO II, you can produce a multitude of parts faster, thereby increasing productivity. What's more, significant improvements can be made with regard to part quality, accuracy, and scrap reduction by removing many of the obstacles resulting from simple operator error.

The SERVO II is also ideal as a backup to larger CNC equipment, and may allow unattended operation so an operator can do other tasks while the SERVO II makes precision machined parts.

Without a doubt, it is for these reasons that some users say the SERVO II is like having another machinist in the shop.
What's unique about the SERVO II is its modular design and underlying concept of choice. SERVO II lets you create your own automation control package with the ability to upgrade on an ongoing basis without obsoleting any aspect of your existing system. You can install one or more axes at a time, plus add other enhancements.

The ability to upgrade upon demand enables even small shop owners with limited finances to stay abreast of major advancements in machine technology, since you can purchase the SERVO II for literally a fraction of some automation packages. With just 4 to 5 hours of use daily, a SERVO II can pay for itself within a few months. In fact, many shops are using the SERVO II to win jobs they once "no-bid."

The concept of choice is also an integral aspect of the various SERVO II operating methods. You can run programs through the pendant, or from your PC configured to our requirements, or from the optional Servo Operator Console. SERVO II lets you choose the best method for making your part, while still offering all the benefits of a manual mill with power feed and DRO operation. The system lets inexperienced CNC users easily learn the basics, then "step up" to full use of the system as they gain additional training and experience.

Standard Operating Methods

TEACH MODE (included with your basic SERVO II kit) is the ideal starting point, even if you have no background in CNC technology.

TEACH mode offers a fast way to machine one-of-a-kind and production run parts with its simple method of teaching straight line and angle moves. You can learn to teach programs requiring up to four-axis capability in about an hour without a PC.
Machine movement is handled through the pendant with the help of subroutines, jog mode steps, plus rapid or feed rate control. You can store up to four programs in pendant memory.

PROGRAMMABLE MODE (also included with your basic SERVO II kit) lets you transfer existing pendant programs to a computer, freeing up pendant memory for new jobs. It lets you store or edit off line using a limited set of G codes. Later, transfer the program back to the pendant to make more parts from the original or revised part program.

Both TEACH and PROGRAMMABLE modes provide basic operating capabilities. At some point, you may want to use other programming methods. The following SERVO II options are available as additional software enhancements.

Optional Software

CONVERSATIONAL MODE offers shop floor programming capabilities and is ideal for programming complex CNC parts using a variety of powerful canned cycles and other features.

What makes the program so enticing is that you don't need any CNC background. Simply follow the menu-driven, question-and-answer type format; then as you program, check the development and accuracy of the part by viewing a graphic part display before running the part on your machine.

CNC MODE is ideal for programming contoured objects and can be used with your CAD/CAM system. It offers sophisticated features such as 2-axis circular interpolation (XY, XZ, YZ plane) and 4-axis linear interpolation. CNC mode is also ideal for running long file programs.

Quick'n'Easy CAM can be used to draw parts, as well as generate tool paths, project onto a 3D surface, and much more.

For more complete details and specifications on Servo's optional operating methods and software, please ask for our brochures on the "SERVO CNC" as well as "SERVO Quick'n'Easy CAM".

In addition to its multitude of superior programming capabilities, the SERVO II is engineered to superior technical standards. The system provides high accuracy, repeatability and resolution, as well as high reliability, since there are no gears, brushes, belts or clutches to break down or wear out. Over time, the SERVO II will be your best bet for increasing productivity so you can stay ahead of others performing similar operations. MACHINE POSITION SCREEN

The PROGRAMMABLE MODE screen provides useful information such as current position and status of the axis drive motors, along with the feed rate. Manual data input commands are also allowed.

CONVERSATIONAL SCREENThis CONVERSATIONAL MODE screen shows a graphic display of your part as you program it, helping you discover possible programming errors before machining the part. A "fill-in-the-blank'' question-and-answer type format make CONVERSATIONAL mode ideal for those without CNC experience.

CNC MODE SCREEN

This CNC MODE screen shows an example of the useful "verify" feature. It provides a wire frame model of the tool path, allowing you to check the XY, XZ, YZ or isometric view of the part before machining it. You can also compute the estimated cycle time for running your part.

This Quick'n'Easy CAM screen shows an example of how you can project onto a three-dimensional surface. This is just one of the many useful features offered by this unique package.
